Reinventing Ritual, The Jewish Museum, NYC + SF

text from page 16 of exhibition catalogue:

“My wishbone is an artifact of the chicken, a memento of a dinner, and a symbol of my family’s history of chicken farming and chicken cooking.  I used a lost-wax casting process to turn the wishbone from a 2004 family dinner–featuring roast chicken and a round table of grandparents, parents, siblings, and cousins–into a metal replica of the event.  This wishbone transcends that specific family dinner and represents family dinners and family in general.  By wearing my wishbone, others can reflect on their own associations of the significance of the wishbone.” -ac
